Andrew Imbrie, 1921-2007
The composer Andrew Imbrie died on Wednesday; Robert Commanday remembers him here. Joshua Kosman's Imbrie obituary is here.
Thanks, Lisa. I remember meeting Andrew Imbrie when Julius Baker performed his flute concerto with the New York Philharmonic back in 1977. It was really a remarkable (as well as a difficult) piece, and I remember Imbrie as a very kind man.
Friends who knew him at Berkeley are saying the same. I'm deeply curious about his opera Angle of Repose, given the greatness of the novel. I'd like to hear that concerto and will look to see if it has been recorded.
