There is not much uplift, though, in the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s wrenching and gravely beautiful “Passion de Simone,”

Wonderful, I hate uplift.

“La Passion de Simone” may be the most despairing of the three. It is unremittingly bleak

Perfect.

I can't wait for this at Disney Hall in January, though until Mr. Salonen raises his baton will I believe it's going to happen: it's been postponed twice already.

BTW Lisa, single tickets for the Los Angeles Philharmonic go on sale next Sunday.

Since Upshaw is healthy, there's a staging, and it's been performed in NYC, I believe it'll happen!
