Nicholas Maw

Composer Nicholas Maw died yesterday at 73; Tom Myron has a brief, heartfelt tribute and lovely photo today.

Ah, sad news. I truly believe that Odyssey is a blazing masterpiece and he wrote other fine pieces as well; I'd love to see a production of The Rising of the Moon, though sadly, I think Sophie's Choice isn't very good.

I met him in Birmingham, England before a performance of Odyssey and he was very nice to this fawning fan as he signed my CD cover. RIP.

Yes, Odyssey and his operas before Sophie sound well worth hearing. Sigh, 73 is young to have dementia....
