Relief

Whew!

I feel sure I read a rumor someplace that Andrea Bocelli would be appearing at the Metropolitan Opera. Since he is a microphone singer and lacks the technique for staged opera, yes, dread struck my heart.

Turns out, he's singing a concert. It'll include a few Handel arias and a bunch of songs, and I won't be there.

I too will not be there. I guess that's not saying much because I won't even be there for productions I'd love to see (Nixon and China, Boris Gudunov, Wozzeck)! But it's the thought that counts.

I'm surprised by the program and his choices. I had no idea he did that type of rep, but I think it's unsuitable to say the least. No doubt he wanted a full "legit" program.

He will still sell out the house.

I admit that it is a comparatively low-overhead way for the Met to make some money.

As Lisa says - a good payday for the Met. You can bet it will be filled.

So maybe this will allow them to support a lesser known work in their schedule.

Some good may come of it...
