Don't Do What the ROH is About to Do

Their Premium Friends, who pay a small fortune for the privilege of premium and advanced ticketing, will (temporarily) only be able to order tickets using the ticketing system's Best Available option. Later on, Choose Your Own Seat will become available.

Read all about it at the ROH blog and at Intermezzo.

And don't, just don't, insult your audience members this way.

UPDATE: Intermezzo reports on the major testing (and testing plan) failure that led to this situation.

Yuck, just like Paris Opera.

I am constantly amazed at the stupidity of arts organizations with regard to pissing off their best customers.

It's rampant, as I blogged a few weeks ago. Do they count on tourists to fill the seats after PO'd customers leave? In the big cities it works sometimes, but the Met has had a lot of empty seats this season (though you CAN choose your own seat, it works very well).

Both organizations use Tessitura, which is the big-house ticketing software of choice.
