The clarinet section had an extra player whose name I didn't get. I saw Associate Principal Matthew Griffith in the orchestra for the third performance and Steven Sanchez for the first and second, both on E-flat clarinet, I believe.

ReplyDeleteThe San Francisco Symphony brass often don't get the recognition they deserve. From my perspective, they are one of the very best in the world, including tubist Jeff Anderson. 😉
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see the newish LSO principal horn playing in the orchestra. I wonder if he's interested in the position? The most recent principal horn audition just concluded and I heard the person they offered the job to turned it down, but my source wasn't certain.
I agree - they are terrific, a marvelous ensemble. I heard the same thing about the audition. I don't know to whom the job was offered.
