Only the second Tosca (Nov 29th with Racette) was nearly full in Dress Circle and Grand Tier. I was shocked at the number of empty seats during the other nights. Actually, all my nights at the opera this season had numerous empty seats on the Dress Circle side sections, except for Lohengrin.CruzSFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09375043409371613480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8957911.post-16837627156110192002012-12-05T09:10:52.610-08:002012-12-05T09:10:52.610-08:00Not off-topic at all; the season press conference ...Not off-topic at all; the season press conference would have been a good place to ask about that.

Nothing was mentioned, but I'll ask the press office.Lisa Hirschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14014924958428072675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8957911.post-23565641976957710892012-12-05T00:43:55.583-08:002012-12-05T00:43:55.583-08:00Thanks for this report. I've heard reports that these performances were not very full, even with discounted seats, but the opera seems to be repeating this strategy with Barbiere, Traviata & Showboat.Axel Feldheimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12517904558156089265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8957911.post-44145365795680406412012-12-04T15:25:34.805-08:002012-12-04T15:25:34.805-08:00Yep - totally expecting to see it, whatever it is....Yep - totally expecting to see it, whatever it is.Lisa Hirschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14014924958428072675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8957911.post-89084442360184489452012-12-04T12:58:31.390-08:002012-12-04T12:58:31.390-08:00Oh, interesting. That's promising (or at least, not completely dire).CruzSFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09375043409371613480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8957911.post-86649543087122938692012-12-04T12:54:25.590-08:002012-12-04T12:54:25.590-08:00They didn't say which opera was cancelled, ala...They didn't say which opera was cancelled, alas, but it is something that will be done in a future season.

That's a drag about the season announcement! But the last three years, there hasn't even been a press conference for the season announcement. My guess is...press, board, and a few other invites only this time.Lisa Hirschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14014924958428072675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8957911.post-9423774367660454592012-12-04T12:50:27.604-08:002012-12-04T12:50:27.604-08:00Hi IronTongue, I get a strong sense from reading y...Hi IronTongue, I get a strong sense from reading your coverage of the SFO announcement that you know which opera was postponed/cancelled due to high costs ... Do you? :-)

Thanks for the extensive post on the season announcement. I usually attend these but didn't receive a letter re: the schedule. Do you have an idea of why the usual donors weren't invited? Or did my expected invite get lost in the mail?

Thanks.CruzSFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09375043409371613480noreply@blogger.com
