Los Angeles Philharmonic Opening Night Gala:

- Boccherini/Berio, Ritirata notturna di Madrid
- Puccini, “Vissi d’arte” (Tosca), “O mio babbino caro” (Gianni Schicchi)
- Berlioz, "Ball Scene" from Romeo and Juliet
True, not the same Romeo and Juliet.
OK, but who's Ravel's agent?
ReplyDeleteHa.
ReplyDeleteThat is my cue to mention that the Boston Symphony's opening night gala is an all-Ravel program - they get Susan Graham singing Shéhérazade, imo greatly preferable to Fleming.
We will have La Fleming in Washington, too, but at least she will be singing Korngold.
ReplyDeleteNational Symphony Orchestra Opening Ball Concert (September 16, 7 pm):
Suppé - Overture to Poet and Peasant
J. Strauss, Jr. - Emperor Waltz, Op. 437
Liszt - Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major (Peng Peng)
Mozart - Overture to The Marriage of Figaro
Mozart - Exsultate, jubilate, K. 165
Strauss - Feuersnot: Love Music
Korngold - Die Kathrin: "Ich soll ihn niemals, niemals mehr seh'n"
Korngold - Das Wunder der Heliane: "Ich ging zu ihm"
That's a nice program! I like the mix of light and middleweight classics.
ReplyDeleteI think she just sang the two Korngold arias at the Proms, eh?
