The all-Stockhausen concert looks amazing, with the usual two performances of Gruppen. The concert version of Messiaen's Saint Francois di Assisi would be a must-attend, except for the 5,000 mile distance between me and the Royal Albert Hall (I was so poor, I couldn't travel up for the SFO production, which my Messiaen-fanatic friend still talks about). Other good bits tucked away there too.
That's where I got the link, of course. Lots of great stuff: the Janacek concert with the Sinfonietta and the Mass; the weird combination of a Rach symphony and Il Tabarro (!), the two newish Carter pieces, the raft of Messiaen, the Tallis Scholars two-mass concert, etc.
For weird combinations, you can't beat Prom 73: Vaughan Williams's Antarctic Symphony and Holst's Planets, with Xenakis' Pleiades sandwiched in between.
I was getting my hopes up thinking that I might be able to fly over and see the last week. But instead I miscalculated and would only be able to afford the flight over and nothing else.
Oh well, I'll start saving up now and aim for next year - not for a week but the whole month!
I saw that today at On An Overgrown Path.

ReplyDeleteHeh, yes. I would love to hear that, actually, I would love to hear all of the RVW except the Serenade to Music, which I casually detest.
ReplyDeleteI though #13 looked interesting!!
ReplyDeleteThe piece on 13 that really interests me is the Turnage! But almost all of the programs are droolworthy.

Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI can't go this year; not enough vacation time, too much going on at work.
