SF Opera at Stern Grove

A great program if you like American staples. It's not really my thing even with Patricia Racette in a few arias and songs that look like good fits, and even with the glimpse of Leah Crocetto.

  1. Yeah, all pretty poppy stuff.

    The thing about Cohan is that you can trade any line from most of his songs with any line from most of his other songs. The progressions are all more or less the same. Try singing these lines in succession, for example, with their original melodies:

    You're a grand old flag, you're a high-flying flag, and forever in peace may you wave;
    Tell all the boys at 42nd Street that I will soon be there;
    I've got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart, she's my Yankee Doodle joy;
    Yankee Doodle went to London, just to ride the ponies, and we won't come back till it's over over there.

    You should be able to do it without missing a beat.
