Elections, Vote Suppression, and Vote "Fraud"

Some months ago, I asked a knowledgable friend about resources related to voting issues such as vote suppression and vote fraud. He suggested the following:
  • Rick Hasen, The Voting Wars
  • Andrew Gumbel, Steal This Vote
  • Alexander Keyssar, The Right to Vote
  • Joseph Harris, Election Administration in the United States, possibly available at the Federal Elections Commission's web site
  • Web search on the names John Fund and Hans von Spakovsky, academic advocates for more restrictions on voting
Hoping to get to them by 2016.....

  1. You might also want to read Robert Caro's MEANS OF ASCENT, which includes a detailed description of how Lyndon Johnson won his Senate seat in 1948.

  2. Thanks, Bill. Ballot stuffing, wasn't it?

I want to read Caro's whole LBJ bio, but it takes some planning.

  3. Mostly ballot stuffing, but there were a few other irregularities, if I recall correctly.

Caro's LBJ series is terrific (although I found the most recent one a little disappointing), but you're right - once you start it, it'll be hard to put it down.
