Conductor Wolfgang Sawallisch has died at 89.
Sawallisch was a real giant; I have a couple of his opera recordings and they're superb.
Peter Dobrin has a nice obit up that doesn't mention that Sawallisch's
Frau ohne Schatten recording is both one of the few complete sets of the opera but one of the best sung and conducted.
I never heard Sawallisch live, which I'm sorry about.
Update (9:27 a.m.): Dobrin blogs some tributes to Sawallisch
here.
