Michael Kaulkin is a Bay Area composer and composition teacher; I heard a work of his for chorus a couple of years back at a Sanford Dole Ensemble concert and liked it a lot.
He's got performances of some of his large-scale works posted at Soundcloud, and I highly recommend them.
Letter to Hungary, for string orchestra;
Waiting.... for chorus, string quartet and piano;
Misterium Tremendum for orchestra; and
Cycle of Friends, for soprano, chorus, and orchestra. Give 'em a listen!
