On Sale at Archiv; Recommendations Sought

The Krauss Ring and about a hundred CRI recordings. I'm putting in an order, and since the CRI discs are going for $2.99 each, I plan to get a bunch. Recommendations, anyone? I have already chosen a few, but I'm not telling you which.

Except the Gay American Composers lineup, I've never even heard of (let alone heard anything by) most of those composers. "Banana Trumpet Games?" Ellsworth Milburn? Let us know what you pick and how you like them.

Lisa, pianist Marilyn Nonken's "American Spirituals" is quite good. The title comes from Michael Finnissy's "North American Spirituals" which I've heard her play live several times--a very intriguing piece. Jason Eckardt's "Echoes' White Veil" also gains with repeated hearings.

Ezra Sims, microtonalist!

There are way too many composers here I've never heard of - outside the compilation albums, most of them. This is embarrassing. 35 years ago if you'd handed me a stack of CRI LPs, I'd have been familiar with just about every composer name on them.

Ha! I know a fair number of the names. I know three personally: Schifrin (who is deceased) and Boykan from Brandeis, Laderman from Teaneck, NJ, where I grew up. His son Jacob was a friend of mine in h.s.

Thanks, all; I will pick up the Nonken disc and some Sims.

shameless self-promotion:
...If you do your order through my Internet radio site, classicalmusicbroadcast.com, a few pennies go back to the station to pay for hosting.

Ach, too late for this order, but next time....!
