Garden of Memory

We're not New York City, and we don't yet have Make Music New York!, but we do have Garden of Memory, the annual new-music festival held at Oakland's Chapel of the Chimes, a remarkable columbarium designed by Julia Morgan.

Garden of Memory takes place tomorrow, Thursday, June 21st, the longest day of the year, starting at 5 p.m. and running until 9 p.m.

Read all about it in Joshua Kosman's Chron article. Lots of great performers in great music, and a steal at $5 to $12, kids under 12 free.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the concert, Lisa! Actually I think this event is much more interesting than a day of music outdoors in New York City. The amazing gardener at the Chapel of the Chimes gets gardenias to bloom indoors, and check out the bunches of ripening bananas in the Garden of Eternal Wisdom. Laura Inserra will be in that room performing on many different instruments, and offering treats to the audience. I'm looking forward to meeting you, and have admired your writing for years.

Hi, Lisa. Ching here.

Thanks for the plug of my concert at St. John's this Saturday on SFCV. Let me know if you'd like to come, I'll reserve some tixs for you.

Thank you, Ching. I accepted a party invitation for Saturday afternoon long ago, wah, and can't get there.

Sarah, Garden of Memory is an amazing event. This is going to be the first year I've been able to attend, so I am very much looking forward to it.

The NY thing looks pretty good too. I was surprised at what an eclectic lineup they've got. I think the two events are quite different, and I really should not have contrasted them.

You're right, Lisa, the whole Make Music New York event looks terrific, and it's a very different concept from our Garden of Memory concert today. I apologize for the silly late-night comment. We'll all be listening to an extraordinary variety of new music. See you soon!

I'm not sure what time I will be arriving - I have to deal with a family emergency this afternoon and don't know how long that will take.
