The first COVID cancellation of the summer but maybe not the last.
For immediate release - 07-06-2022 - New York City – Teatro Nuovo has made the difficult decision to postpone its performances of Maometto Secondo and La Sonnambula due to a surge of Covid-19 cases within the company. The performances were scheduled for July 9, 10, 13, and 14 at the Kasser Theater (Montclair NJ) and the Rose Theater (Jazz at Lincoln Center).
“We are heartbroken for our performers, who worked right up to the cusp of dress rehearsals, and terribly sorry to disappoint our ticket-holders,” said General Director Will Crutchfield in announcing the cancellations, “but safety comes first. Notwithstanding our daily tests and masking requirements, this devious virus found a way in, and spread very aggressively once it was here. We will reschedule the two operas at the earliest possible moment, so that fruits of these past four weeks’ labor will eventually reach the public.”
