Perhaps We Can Help

Terry Teachout has a little list of things he's never done. I say he really should give a few of those things a whirl, and I'd be happy to help out.

P. S. And here's no. 11 on that list: he's never studied German. Der Ring des Nibelungen means "The Nibelung's Ring," not "The Ring of the Nibelungs."

According to "Knoch's Opera Guide: Two Hundred and Fifty Descriptions of Celebrated Operas with Short Biographies of their Composers," published in Vienna between 1919 and 1924, Wagner's tetralogy is "The Ring of the Nibelungs."

That is a mistranslation. Look at any translation of the Ring into English.
