The few times I've been to the City Opera and to Avery Fisher Hall, the acoustics have been poor, I hope those get corrected. *Sigh* Gerard Mortier, you were right......
the official line is that the center has been a “closed citadel” of the arts, set apart from the life of New York City’s streets
Ha! That's nothing compared to the Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles! It's set on a practically the highest of the hills downtown and is pretty uninviting in terms of casual foot traffic, not that there's much to do once you're on the main plaza except.....go to an outdoors restaurant! :-) The Disney Hall does a better job of that.
Avery Fisher has already been renovated twice. I attended a couple of concerts there in 2006, and I have to say, the hall sounded warmer and better from the orchestra section than Davies usually sounds.
