First, Obama managed to win Indiana in the election. Now good news in Iowa. As a former midwesterner, it's great to see such progress...

The full decision makes delicious reading, especially the last 15 pages or so, where they calmly wipe out the counter-arguments one by one, pointing out that prohibiting same-sex marriage would further none of those objectives, and then saying, "Come on, we know what this is really about. It's about religious belief, an argument that has not been put before the court because it is irrelevant to civil marriage. Therefore the appellants have just run out of ammunition."

I will have to take a look.

The other really interesting thing about this decision is that right-wing Republicans have been stacking the judiciary with their own kind since the 1980s -- yet still common sense and a fair reading of the law sometimes prevail.

Great, also, is: "With no appeal as an option, opponents say their only hope to overturn Friday’s decision is an almost-certain bid to amend the state constitution. But that path, which would eventually require a public vote, would not yield results until 2012 at the earliest." Hopefully by 2012 we'll be protected nationwide.
