I would have preferred a trial.

A trial was sufficient for the leaders of the Third Reich, who started a war that killed 60 million people, including military and civilian deaths and those murdered by the Third Reich in the death camps. I grant the risk that a trial would have meant extended grandstanding and a stance of martyrdom, but the latter status may be awarded him anyway.

And I can't celebrate this death, or wave a flag. I can only contemplate soberly.

Grandstanding and martyrdom - sure, but a trial might have demythologized him, too, which could only have been a good thing.

Absolutely true.

Lisa,

I agree.

Also, one more thing:

The blood lust going on in the streets is sickening. Death, even that of someone as despicable as Osama bin Laden doesn’t warrant a grave-dancing orgy.

Ugh!

I just felt nothing but sadness after reading about his death last night, sadness that yet *another* brutal, thuggish man was supported by our government at one point but then became the latest edition of The Greatest Evil Ever In The History Of Evil when he didn't follow the script. You know, after being told for about the 10th time that someone is a threat to our very human existence, I start to not believe the government when they trot out a new one.

I'm watching the Angels v. Red Sox game from Fenway Park as I surf the Net and the flagwaving and ass-kissing of the military that's going on between innings is disgusting.
