I have an Elder/BBC SO recording of this that came with BBC Music Magazine some years ago. I once described it as "Mossolovian," assuming any of my readers knew what that meant, and said that it's the kind of classical music that Calvin (of "and Hobbes") would like: considering that Calvin's reaction to the cannons in the 1812 Overture was "Cannons? And I thought classical music was boring!" he would have really liked this one. Machine guns! (or at least the sound of them)
