Rarity

I would not fly to London for a Donizetti opera, not even one that hasn't been performed at Covent Garden since 1887 (was that with Melba or Patti?), but if you're close by, you might want to check out the company's upcoming concert performances of Linda di Chamonix:
7th and 14th September 2009, 7 p.m.
ROH
Eglise Guttierez, Stephen Costello, Alessandro Corbelli, Mariana Pizzolato/Mark Elder
Tickets are 4 to 95 pounds

Is there any good music in it besides "O luce di quest'anima," favorite of coloratura sopranos everywhere?

The real rarity is that you can get an opera ticket for 4 quid!

Haha! I think that might be amphitheatre standing room.

A friend who's heard the whole thing sez, forget it, only that one aria is worth hearing.

Juan Diego Florez has a duet and a aria from that opera on his recent CD 'Bel Canto Spectacular.' It sounds like standard Donizetti but on the boring side. But I've never really had a strong impression of Donizetti

That sounds about right.
